William Scott (1964)

This is a monograph on the British painter (born 1913) whose work is now well known throughout Europe and America. It has been edited by Alan Bowness who has written the introduction, and two distinguished foreign critics, Michel Ragon and Werner Schmalenbach contribute shorter pieces in French and German. The book also contains a detailed biography, bibliography and a list of exhibitions.

The main feature of the work is of course the plates. These have been selected by the editor and by the artist himself, who has taken an active interest in the book’s preparation. 23 pictures are reproduced in colour, and another 126 in black and white, so that the volume provides a balanced and very comprehensive account of the development of William Scott’s painting from 1938 to the present day.
