Produced by Art Society Press which was run by scholars of King’s College School, Wimbledon. “THIS BOOK is not intended primarily as a textbook on jugs, but as an essay into lino-cutting. There are several different approaches to lino-cutting illustrated, and some elaborated: two printing blocks, for instance, have been used to print one cutting, one cutting the actual jug outline and the other the decorative pattern on the jug. Some blocks have been printed once, recut, and printed again in different colours. Occasionally this process has been gone through no less than four times. When the artist prints his own block by hand, the resulting texture is extremely rich. Unfortunately, much of this richness is lost in the mechanical process of printing. We have therefore tried to compensate for this loss by making each page as rich as possible in colour, decoration, and type-display.”
Condition: covers foxed, otherwise very good.
